Initiator

KAY/O: abilities and tips

KAY/O is a robot Initiator from an alternate Earth: he suppresses enemy abilities, blinds, and can come back to life with his ultimate.

KAY/O

Playstyle

KAY/O forces the defenders to fight without their abilities. You throw ZERO/point before the entry to cut off enemy abilities and see how many enemies are hit, then FLASH/drive blinds the angle and FRAG/ment hinders those holding the site. Your team enters on disarmed and blinded enemies. NULL/cmd gives you a fire rate and reload bonus and a second chance if you go down: it works well on a retake. You rarely enter first, except with the ultimate.

Abilities

Key CBasic

FRAG/ment

200 credits · 1 charge

You throw an explosive fragment that pulses several times and damages nearby enemies, with the most damage at the center. It is used to dislodge a defender holding a position, to hinder a defuse or to close off a passage for a few seconds.

Key numbers

  • Duration: 4 s
  • Damage: 25 to 60 per tick, 1 tick per second
  • Throw it at a defender holding a closed position just before the entry: they have to move or take damage.
  • Place it on the Spike to hinder a defuse and force the defenders out of their cover.
Key QBasic

FLASH/drive

250 credits · 2 charges

You throw a flash that blinds everyone who sees the explosion. Primary fire goes in a straight trajectory with a longer fuse, alternate fire goes in an arc and explodes faster. Your choice changes when the defenders get hit.

Key numbers

  • Blind: 2.25 s
  • Setup: 1.6 s (primary fire), 1 s (alternate fire)
  • Use alternate fire for a quick flash when you want to step out before the enemy turns around.
  • Call out every flash out loud: your teammates can turn away or time their peek.
Key ESignature

ZERO/point

1 free charge per round · 1 charge · Cooldown: 50 s

You throw a knife that, as it pulses, prevents enemies in its radius from using their abilities, and you see how many were hit. Opponents can destroy it before the pulse. It is used to cut off the defense's utility before an entry.

Key numbers

  • The knife has 20 HP
  • Suppression: 8 s
  • Setup: 1 s
  • Throw it just before the entry so the defenders can't use their abilities when the team arrives.
  • On defense, throw it at the attacker setting up their execute: suppressed enemies can no longer throw their smokes, flashes or traps.
Key XUltimate

NULL/cmd

8 ultimate points

You enter overload and emit waves of energy that suppress the abilities of the enemies they hit. You also gain a fire rate and reload bonus. If you go down, a teammate can revive you, which gives you a second chance.

Key numbers

  • Overload: 12 s
  • Downed state: 15 s, 850 HP
  • Suppression: 4 s per pulse
  • Bonus: +10% fire rate, reload, equip and recovery speed
  • Use it on a retake: the suppression neutralizes the attackers' abilities and the weapon bonus helps you win the duel.
  • Warn the teammate who has to revive you before you go down: whoever revives you stays exposed for several seconds.

Strengths

  • ZERO/point stops enemies in the zone from using their abilities right before the entry: the fight becomes an aim duel.
  • FLASH/drive offers two throws (straight or arced): you choose between a far flash and a quick flash depending on the timing of the entry.
  • NULL/cmd gives you a weapon bonus and a second chance if you go down: it is an ultimate suited to a retake or to holding a site.
  • FRAG/ment deals repeated damage in the zone and hinders a defender or a defuse for 4 s.

Weaknesses

  • ZERO/point makes noise and the knife can be destroyed before it pulses: an attentive defender cancels the suppression.
  • FLASH/drive throws follow fixed trajectories, and bad timing can miss the enemy or blind your allies.
  • Reviving KAY/O with NULL/cmd exposes the teammate who revives you for several seconds.
  • He brings little info beyond the number of suppressed enemies: you need another Initiator or a Controller to scan.

Tips

  1. Throw ZERO/point before the entry to suppress abilities and read the number of enemies, then chain into FLASH/drive to open.
  2. If credits are short, your signature ZERO/point is free and comes back over time: throw it before the entry even without buying anything.
  3. Use NULL/cmd on a retake rather than holding it indefinitely: the suppression and the weapon bonus are worth more than an ultimate never played.
  4. Train your aim on stationary targets: a blinded or suppressed enemy often stays in place, and your first shot decides the duel.
  5. Work on the counter-strafe: after a flash you step out, stop dead and shoot before the enemy regains sight.

The aim to train

The Road2Radiant benchmark subcategories that matter most here.

  • Static

    Clicking on static targets

A blinded or suppressed enemy often keeps their position: the flick and the click on a nearly stationary target win the duel after your utility.

  • Strafe Click

    Clicking while strafing

You step out right after the flash then stop to shoot: a good counter-strafe keeps you from missing the first bullet against an enemy who is recovering.
