Controller

Omen: abilities and tips

Omen is a phantom Controller: he places smokes anywhere on the map, blinds through walls and teleports to catch opponents off guard.

Omen

Playstyle

Omen is a mobile Controller. Your smokes land at long range, including on high ground, which gives you positions where you see the enemy's feet without being seen. Paranoia blinds through walls, right before your team enters. Shrouded Step lets you change angles or make several players think you are on defense, and the ultimate lets you take a flank or fake. You shine when you coordinate smokes with Duelists. You are fragile in a direct duel: the noise of your teleport and your cancellable ultimate push you to play it right and stay discreet, keeping a smoke for the plant or the retake.

Abilities

Key CBasic

Shrouded Step

100 credits · 2 charges

You choose a nearby point, channel for a short moment, then teleport there. The ability is for changing angles, escaping a lost duel or catching an opponent from the flank. The arrival makes noise.

Key numbers

  • Delay before the teleport: 0.7 s
  • Makes a sound on arrival
  • Teleport through your own smoke to change line of sight without showing yourself.
  • Do not use it in the open: the arrival sound is audible and an attentive opponent punishes you.
  • On defense, play with it to fake several players and muddy the enemy's read on the site.
Key QBasic

Paranoia

250 credits · 1 charge

You throw a shadow projectile in a straight line. It passes through walls and briefly reduces the vision of the players it hits, while deafening them. It sets up an entry or disrupts a defuse, without dealing damage.

Key numbers

  • Passes through walls
  • Vision reduced for 2 s, and deafens
  • Range: 25 m, speed: 20 m/s
  • Throw it through a wall right before your team enters the site, so they open without return fire.
  • Use it on a retake to weaken a defender holding a tight angle.
  • On an eco, avoid buying it: it is expensive and the projectile can be heard, so it is easy to dodge.
Key ESignature

Dark Cover

150 credits · 1 free charge per round · 2 charges · Cooldown: 40 s

You switch to the phased world, move the marker far away, then place a shadow sphere that blocks vision for several seconds. The range is very large. Charges recharge over time.

Key numbers

  • Smoke duration: 15 s
  • Place it on the bottom of a ledge or a crate to see the enemy's feet while staying hidden.
  • Check that the enemy is not hiding in it: a smoke on your path can become a hiding spot for them.
  • Wait for the recharge before spending both: keeping one charge for the plant gives you control after the plant.
Key XUltimate

From the Shadows

7 ultimate points

You select a point on the map, channel, then teleport there. During the teleport, you appear as a shadow that the enemy can destroy to cancel the action. You can also cancel it yourself.

Key numbers

  • Total duration: 4 s
  • Cancellable: the enemy can destroy the shadow
  • Destination: anywhere on the map
  • Place a smoke at the destination first so the shadow materializes inside it.
  • Take a flank or make a fake to force the defenders to change position.
  • Do not use it near an enemy who can see the destination: they can destroy the shadow and cancel it.

Strengths

  • Smokes land at very long range, including on the edge of a low wall: you close distant angles and create one-way positions.
  • Paranoia passes through walls and reduces the vision of enemies it hits: thrown before a push, it lets the team enter without getting shot.
  • He teleports, which is rare among Controllers: Shrouded Step lets you change angles, escape a duel or fake several players.
  • Dark Cover recharges (40 s per charge): you can cover a path several times in a long round without buying charges again.
  • The ultimate lets you reach a flank or delay a site take, even though it can be cancelled.

Weaknesses

  • Shrouded Step makes a sound on arrival: an attentive opponent knows where you are and can punish you as soon as you appear.
  • The ultimate leaves a visible shadow that the enemy can destroy to cancel the teleport, and it reveals your destination.
  • An opponent can hide in your smoke and see who approaches, so you must not place it on your team's path.
  • Paranoia travels in a straight line and can be heard: a player who reacts to the sound can dodge it, so it should be fired at fixed positions.
  • Many abilities to place at range: without good lineups on each map, the smokes lose their value.

Tips

  1. On attack, smoke the main defensive angles, fire Paranoia through a wall, then enter behind the smokes with your team.
  2. Use one-way smokes, placed on the bottom of a ledge, to see the enemy's feet without being seen.
  3. Keep a smoke for the post-plant or the retake: smokes recharge, but not fast enough for two sites.
  4. Learn a few lineups per map, especially for long-range smokes, so you do not expose yourself when placing them.
  5. For aim, work on precise shooting at a stationary target when you come out of Shrouded Step: you often appear behind an enemy and need to hit the head in one short burst.
  6. On an eco, buy Shrouded Step rather than Paranoia, which costs 250 credits and is only useful before a push.

The aim to train

The Road2Radiant benchmark subcategories that matter most here.

  • Static

    Clicking on static targets

You appear behind or next to an enemy after Shrouded Step: the first shot on a stationary target counts, because it decides the duel.

  • Precise

    Smooth precision tracking

From a one-way smoke, you hold a precise angle and follow a head that barely moves: precision tracking helps you hold that angle.
